Step-by-Step Guide to Using Audible on an Android Device

What is Audible?

Audible is a popular audiobook service from Amazon, offering a vast library of audiobooks across various genres. Using the Audible App, it can be used on Android, iOS as well as Fire TV devices, Windows computers and Mac computers and is compatible with Alexa (Just tell Alexa, “read my book” and your Alexa speaker will read your book via a connected device such as a smartphone. Step 1: Download and Install the Audible App

  1. Open the Google Play Store:
    • Find the Google Play Store app on your Android device and tap on it to open.
  2. Search for Audible:
    • In the search bar at the top, type “Audible” and hit the search button.
  3. Select Audible:
    • From the search results, find the Audible app (usually listed as “Audible: Audiobooks, Podcasts & Audio Stories”) and tap on it.
  4. Install the App:
    • Tap the “Install” button. The app will download and install on your device.

Step 2: Sign In or Create an Account

  1. Open Audible:
    • Once installed, tap the Audible app icon to open it.
  2. Sign In:
    • If you already have an Audible or Amazon account, tap on “Sign In” and enter your Amazon account credentials.
    • If you don’t have an account, tap on “Create an Account” and follow the instructions to set up a new account.

Step 3: Explore Audible Features

  1. Browse the Library:
    • Use the search bar at the top to find specific titles, authors, or genres.
    • Explore different categories, bestsellers, new releases, and recommendations on the home screen.
  2. Check Out Audible Originals and Podcasts:
    • Tap on “Discover” to explore Audible Originals and various podcasts exclusive to Audible.

Step 4: Purchase or Download Audiobooks

  1. Using Credits:
    • If you have a membership, you get credits that can be used to purchase audiobooks. Find a book you like, tap on it, and then tap “Buy with 1 Credit.”
  2. Direct Purchase:
    • You can also buy audiobooks without credits. Tap on the book and choose the “Buy Now for [Price]” option.
  3. Add to Wishlist:
    • If you’re not ready to purchase, tap “Add to Wishlist” to save the book for later.

Step 5: Download and Listen to Audiobooks

  1. Downloading:
    • After purchasing, the audiobook will appear in your library. Tap on the “Library” icon at the bottom of the screen.
    • Tap the “Download” button next to the audiobook to download it to your device.
  2. Listening:
    • Once downloaded, tap on the audiobook cover to start listening.
    • Use the play, pause, rewind, and fast-forward buttons to control playback.
    • You can also adjust the playback speed, set a sleep timer, and bookmark important parts.

Step 6: Managing Your Library

  1. Organize Audiobooks:
    • Use the “Filter” and “Sort” options in your library to organize your audiobooks by title, author, or recently added.
  2. Remove Downloads:
    • To free up space, you can remove downloaded audiobooks from your device. Tap and hold the audiobook cover, then select “Remove from Device.”
  3. Sync Across Devices:
    • Audible automatically syncs your listening progress across all devices. Just sign in with the same account on another device, and you can continue listening from where you left off.

Step 7: Customizing Your Experience

  1. Settings:
    • Tap on the profile icon or the three horizontal lines (menu) at the top-left corner, and go to “Settings.”
    • Customize playback settings, download preferences, and notification settings according to your preferences.
  2. Connecting to Bluetooth:
    • You can connect your Android device to Bluetooth headphones or speakers for a better listening experience. Pair your device in the Bluetooth settings and enjoy your audiobooks wirelessly.

Step 8: Using Audible Features

  1. Whispersync for Voice:
    • If you own both the Kindle ebook and the Audible audiobook, you can switch between reading and listening without losing your place. Make sure Whispersync for Voice is enabled in settings.
  2. Car Mode:
    • For safer listening while driving, enable Car Mode in the Audible app, which simplifies the interface for easy control.

  1. Help & Support:
    • If you encounter any issues or have questions, tap on the profile icon or the menu, then go to “Help & Support.” Here, you’ll find FAQs, troubleshooting guides, and the option to contact Audible support.
